2007
Certainly not the strongest year for darktronica. Many familiar faces grace 2007's preliminary top 10 selections, with several bands marking at least their third top 10 appearance. I've still got a lot of albums to listen to and review, including releases by big names like Assemblage 23 and Front Line Assembly, but the general impression is that the rest of the music world outpaced the darktronica scene this year. Most of these albums would not hold up well against competition from past years. Futurepop had a particularly weak performance in 2007, with a number of solid bands releasing lackluster albums.
Outside of the dark electronica scene, however, are a lot of albums worth listening to. The Best of the Rest for Music Industry 2007: Aesop Rock's None Shall Pass, Mirrored by Battles, El-P's I'll Sleep When You're Dead, Kamelot's Ghost Opera, and Colors from Between The Buried And Me.
