Along with Theatre of Tragedy and Tristania, After Forever is one of the leading "beauty and the beast"-style gothic metal bands, featuring Floor Jansen's gorgeous soprano vocals contrasted with the death-style growling of Sander Gommans. Their debut album, Prison Of Desire, is a classic in the field, rivaled closely by the follow-up Invisible Circles.
Sadly, Sander Gommans fell seriously ill recently, suffering a stress-related seizure after the conclusion of After Forever's 2007 world tour. The remaining members decided that continuing without him would mean losing a big part of what makes the band After Forever, so the group is currently on hiatus in support of Sander's recovery. Best wishes to him on the road to a full recovery and continued good health.
