A high-energy synthrock outfit from Toronto, The Birthday Massacre are one of the more promising full bands on the current gothic scene. Full of colorful characters and infectious tunes, they stand to inherit the mantle of groups like The Crüxshadows as dancefloor killers who can also dominate festival stages.
Walking With Strangers is a classic album, great to listen to when you're looking for something upbeat and catchy that still has an edge to it. It's getting hard to find those qualities without steering into the more sugary synthpop realms of the darktronica scene, but The Birthday Massacre does a good job of striking an appealing balance.
