Start with two pounds of cello rock, a la Rasputina. Add half a cup of harpsichord, a tablespoon each of Shakespeare and Tori Amos for lyrical flavor, and a pinch of J-pop and gothic lolita whimsy, toss it all in an Easy-Bake Oven for twenty minutes, and out comes Emilie Autumn!
A classically trained violinist by trade, Emilie eventually dropped out of music school after her unconventional tastes clashed with university authorities. She quickly attracted the attention of record execs and fellow personalities such as Courtney Love and Billy Corgan with her unique fusion of classical, cabaret and rock influences. Her infectious energy, beauty, and devoted interaction with fans on her website's forum have earned her a large cult following among the gothic crowd.
