In an age where band members come and go like fads and lineups change every album, Covenant has been a steadfast rock on the black dance scene. Formed in 1986 by three teenage friends, they remained constant for over twenty years and quickly shot to the top of the futurepop music movement, along with fellow superstars VNV Nation and Apoptygma Berzerk. Only in 2007 did they finally announce a change in lineup; after a brief stint touring with Eskil and Joakim, Haujobb's Daniel Myer was hired on as a full-time replacement for the departing Clas Nachmanson.
Originally influenced by groups like Front 242, Kraftwerk, and Nitzer Ebb, Covenant took a few albums to really find their niche. While Dreams Of A Cryotank and Sequencer were both very successful releases, the trio started evolving towards their current sound on Europa, where the beats get bigger, the aggression and distortion get turned down, and the hooks get catchier. Covenant's sound has kept brightening on each successive album, and hardly a goth night goes by without hearing them at some point in the playlist.
Darktronica favorites are "Dead Stars," "Bullet," "Like Tears In Rain," and "Stalker."
