Razed In Black is one of the few industrial dance groups that gets the fusion of guitar and electronics right, without any sacrifice of aggression or danceability. Romell's notoriety in the scene comes mainly from over 45 official remixes for fellow artists, nearly 40 covers of musicians ranging from Madonna to The Smashing Pumpkins, and appearances on more than 40 industry compilations. This output, released not only under Razed In Black but also as Transmutator or DJ RiB, poses a dizzying challenge for any collector.
While Transmutator focuses more on trance and d&b, and DJ RiB spins hardcore and d&b, Razed In Black takes a pretty varied approach to production. A uniformly high-quality blend of industrial, metal, gothic rock, and synthpop, albums released under the Razed In Black moniker offer something for nearly everyone. Most songs are fast-paced and aggressive, with driving guitar lines and thumping bass that builds up through a standard verse-hook-chorus song structure. Interspersed with the metal-friendly riffs are some pretty innovative electronic elements, with enough modulation and inversion to please any knob-twiddler.
Favorites are "Power (Velocity Edit)," "Share This Poison," the catchy club anthem "Oh My Goth," and a cover of Nine Inch Nail's "Sin."
