Formed by Liv Kristine and Alexander Krull after their marriage, Leaves' Eyes could also be described as the union of Krull's experimental metal band Atrocity with Kristine's musical ambitions. Every member of Leaves' Eyes but Kristine has their origins in Atrocity (even Kristine had contributed guest vocals to Atrocity on multiple occasions before wedding Krull), but Leaves' Eyes strikes out in a new direction musically for the group, presenting an epic, symphonic metal front recounting historical Scandinavian sagas of love, exploration and nature.

As with her former band Theatre Of Tragedy, Liv Kristine steals the show here with her powerful soprano lilt. Heavy use of orchestral-sounding synthesizer lines and an extensive and varied percussion kit (drummer Moritz Neuner is an accomplished metal veteran of over 10 bands) lends Leaves' Eyes the majestic sound that is a fitting backdrop for the epic tales Kristine sings about.
