Neuroticfish
EBM
Germany
Disbanded
Neuroticfish--like another Darktronica favorite, Boole, but to a smaller degree--is a relative unknown in the scene, but a fantastic artist who deserves to be heard.
When Sascha Mario Klein decided to strike out on his own to create his own style of EBM, he decided not to send out demos to any of the major European labels, instead relying on Internet buzz to generate hype for his music. In the saturated German electronica scene, a bold move for sure, but rather than spend his energy on the endless grind of self-promotion, Klein stuck to doing what he did best--producing catchy dancefloor beats with a distorted, aggressive edge. Eventually the persistence paid off, winning spots on a few synthpop compilations and attracting a deal with Bloodline, a now-defunct Zoth Ommog imprint.
Neuroticfish is most well-known for making the claim that "electronic body music is dead" in the song "Black Again." All of his songs are either eminently danceable or slow and introspective, with the most striking element being Klein's silky, echoing vocals.
In addition to his own work, Neuroticfish has been responsible for some pretty good remixes, most notably producing two versions of :wumpscut:'s "Wreath Of Barbs" accepted for the Wreath Of Barbs (Classic Remixes) EP. In one, he supplants the heavily vocoded lyrics with his own haunting baritone, and on the other, the music is re-arranged into a much lighter, more ethereal tune.
Darktronica favorites are "It's Not Me," "Reinvent The Pain," "The Bomb," and "Suffocating Right."
Sascha announced that Neuroticfish's performance at Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2008 would be the project's final show. It would appear that Neuroticfish's brand of EBM is dead, after all. Cheers to a decade of impressive musical production.
