Post-Punk

The post-punk movement was a broad outgrowth of punk rock in the late 1970s and early 1980s, taking the brash energy of punk rock and turning it inwards to create a more complex, introspective and varied sound. Incorporating influences from dub music, funk, Krautrock and avante-garde art, post-punk groups like Joy Division, Echo And The Bunnymen, and The Psychedelic Furs set the stage for a wide variety of later genres ranging from gothic rock to alternative.

Although post-punk was a relatively short movement that quickly evolved, the style has seen a resurgence in recent years, with indie rock bands such as Franz Ferdinand and The Killers rising to fame with the same brand of artsy rock experimentalism displayed by the post-punk stars of twenty years ago.
